Taking family pictures in the home is one of my most favorite things to do.  It’s intimate, it’s honest, it’s real, and I think it’ll withstand the test of time.  Remember when you were 6 and just got your new loft bed?  Do you remember that dolly that you loved so much?  Do you remember that cool tree in the front yard?  Do you remember how many hours we spent playing, jumping, and swimming in our backyard?  Those were amazing times.  These are amazing times.

This is who and where they are today.  An incredibly loving and kind family who love being and playing together.  A sweet and very smart little girl who is curious and playful and interested.  A united couple who have traveled the world but are so happy to be at home, together.

It was an honor to come into their home and document this time in their lives.  Enjoy.  Your family is beautiful!

I love this family’s yearly tradition.  A picture every year to document who they are as a family- beautiful, growing, and changing.  And this year is no different, except maybe it’s even better.  This year they have their new baby girl who is as sweet as can be.

She’s perfect in every way- her eyes, nose, and toes- and she loves to look around and watch.  She’s content and joyful and giggles when she’s with her mom and dad.  Pure  joy.

It was my pleasure to take these pictures for them this year.  I loved meeting them, oohing over their sweetheart, and documenting the love they have for her this year.

Enjoy!

What a beautiful family on a stunning day in one of Houston’s most popular parks!  Not to mention these awesome kids.  First of all, I LOVE this age.  They are just kids who are curious and energetic and excited about everything.  They are so radiant, and I wanted to capture their spirits in these photos.  And I think you can see it.  I think you can feel every bit of their 4 and 7 year old selves here.

It was a blast for me.  Thanks to you all for a fun afternoon in the park.

Your family is precious.  Enjoy!

When the camera is in my hand, I am always looking for the essence of a situation or the person.  Especially with children, I want to capture their personality shining.  And so I love this image, a four year old’s energy and joy and spunk that never ends.

Having just moved from DC to Houston, my life is in transition.  And with the changes, I’m looking to refine my artist’s eye and skill.  I’m entering this image into a competition that will offer critique and growth from a wonderful community of photographers.  See and learn more about Chic Critique here.

Our Halloween week is off to a great start.  Who doesn’t LOVE cute babies in costumes?  Fall fairs, pumpkin desserts, candy, and costumes.  We’re loving it all!

He’s a new two and quickly (too quickly)  growing up to be a little boy.  This special age of growth- still such a little guy but growing and learning every day- is a time we cherish so much as parents.  He’s walking, talking, playing, and exploring, and he’s a complete delight to his family.  And yet at the same time, so young and cuddly and new.

We had a wonderful time together.  It was fun for me to watch him explore and play, and it was an added bonus to catch up with his sweet and welcoming mom.

Enjoy your little guy-  he is so special!

It made my day when I heard from this baby’s mama.  Friends from years ago, photographed her son in DC, and now meeting up again in Houston just in time to meet her newest angel, her sweet daughter.  She is as perfect as she looks.  Quiet but alert.  Calm but interested.  Happy and beautiful and sweet.

Thank you for inviting me into your home and giving me the privilege to photograph her.  It was a real honor.

Enjoy this precious one!

It’s blazing hot and the mosquitos are fierce in Houston.  We’ve been here for almost a month.  It’s hard to believe what we’ve accomplished in such a short time.  We’ve moved thousands of miles, lived in a home-tel, swam in the home-tel pool as much as we could, closed on a house, moved for good this time, started 2 new schools, a new job at a new church, and have gratefully attended a couple of birthday parties already.  Between settling in the girls and working on the house, I’ve had little time to pick up the camera.  The break has been good, but after revisiting these images from our gorgeous vacation in Colorado, I’m ready to ease myself back into the photography world.  Working on these personal images has been very gratifying.

This is the story of our annual trip to the mountains.  A story of relaxation, family time, and children growing up to love animals and the outdoors.

I’m heading offline for the next few weeks as we move to Houston, Texas.  I’m excited to meet new people, explore new terrain, and take many more family pictures when we get there.  I hope to get the business up and running soon!

See you later, DC . . . Howdy, Texas!
